High-Temperature Dust Filter Bags: Operating-Condition Checklist

High-temperature filter media should be selected from the complete gas and dust conditions. A maximum temperature figure by itself is not enough to confirm compatibility.

1. Separate continuous and peak temperature
Record normal operating temperature, short peaks, peak duration and start-up and shutdown conditions. Check whether temperature is uniform across the collector or concentrated near particular rows.

2. Review oxygen, moisture and gas chemistry
Provide oxygen level, humidity, dew-point risk and acid or alkali components. Temperature can change the rate of chemical attack, while condensation may expose the media to a different environment than dry gas.

3. Check hot particles and sparks
Identify the possibility of glowing particles, sparks or local radiant heat. Upstream cooling or spark-control measures should be evaluated separately from the media temperature rating.

4. Characterize the dust
Record particle size, abrasiveness, stickiness, concentration and any compounds that may react with moisture. These factors affect surface treatment, membrane options and cleaning behavior.

5. Confirm cleaning and mechanical conditions
Provide cleaning method and settings, filtration velocity, differential-pressure range, cage dimensions and bag construction. Thermal movement and dimensional stability should be considered with the installed hardware.

6. Define verification requirements
State the required material data, certificates, dimensional tolerances, sample or inspection plan and project standard. Final selection should be confirmed against supplier data and the approved operating window.

Avoid assigning a universal efficiency, service life or temperature limit to all bags described as high temperature. Compatibility depends on the specific fiber, scrim, finish, construction and operating condition.
