Start With the Operating Conditions
Filter bag construction should be defined from the actual process, not from a generic promise of high performance. Record gas temperature, moisture, chemical composition, dust abrasiveness, particle characteristics, filtration velocity and cleaning method before selecting the media and bag design.
1. Filter Media
Specify fiber, scrim, fabric weight, permeability and any required treatment. Confirm whether membrane, antistatic, water-and-oil repellent, singed or calendared surfaces are needed for the application.
2. Dimensions and Tolerances
List bag diameter, overall length, usable length and acceptable tolerances. Replacement projects should use an approved drawing or a measured sample, including the tube-sheet hole and cage dimensions.
3. Top and Bottom Construction
Define the snap band, flange, cuff or other top style, plus the bottom disc, reinforcement and wear-protection details. These features must match the dust collector and installation method.
4. Seams, Thread and Reinforcement
Specify seam layout, stitch type, thread material and reinforcement positions. Temperature, chemical exposure and mechanical movement should be considered when choosing sewing materials.
5. Cage and Cleaning Compatibility
Check cage diameter, length, wire spacing, venturi arrangement and surface condition. Also confirm pulse-jet, reverse-air or shaker cleaning because cleaning energy and bag movement influence construction requirements.
6. Inspection and Approval
Before mass production, agree on dimensional inspection, seam checks, sample approval, labeling, packing and required batch documents. Operating life and emissions cannot be guaranteed from bag construction alone; system conditions and operation remain part of the evaluation.
