Dust Filter Bag Construction and Fit Checklist

A replacement dust filter bag is more than a piece of filter media. Reliable fit depends on the media, seams, top and bottom construction, cage support and the way the bag connects to the tube sheet. This checklist helps organize the details needed for a replacement review without assuming that one construction suits every collector.

Filter media and surface layer

The base media may be polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, aramid, PPS, fiberglass, PTFE or another material selected for the temperature, moisture and gas chemistry. A surface finish or PTFE membrane may be added when suitable for the dust and cleaning method. Media weight alone does not confirm compatibility.

Bag body and seams

Confirm the finished length, diameter or flat width, seam type and seam orientation. The seam and sewing thread should be compatible with the operating temperature and chemical exposure. For an existing baghouse, measure a usable sample and compare it with the approved collector drawing.

Top construction

Common top arrangements include snap band, cord, loop, flange and other collector-specific designs. For a snap-band bag, provide the tube-sheet hole diameter, plate thickness and band construction. A nominal bag diameter by itself is not enough to confirm the seal.

Bottom construction

The bottom may be closed, reinforced, double-layered or designed for a particular cage and cleaning system. State whether a wear layer, disc or special sewing arrangement is required. Replacement details should match the collector design and the observed wear pattern.

Cage and venturi compatibility

Record cage diameter, length, number of vertical wires, ring spacing, top style and bottom style. Bent wires, corrosion, sharp welds or an incorrect cage diameter can damage a new bag. The venturi and cage top should also be checked against the cleaning system and installation clearance.

Cleaning-system details

Pulse-jet, reverse-air and shaker collectors use different bag and support arrangements. Provide the cleaning method, pressure-drop history and any recurring failure location. This information helps distinguish a media problem from a fit, cage, inlet or cleaning problem.

  • Bag dimensions, top and bottom construction
  • Tube-sheet opening and plate thickness
  • Cage and venturi dimensions
  • Temperature, moisture and gas chemistry
  • Dust properties, current media and observed failure mode
  • Required quantity, drawings, photographs and delivery destination
