Build the Test Plan Before Testing
Filter bag test results are meaningful only when the sample condition, test method, units and acceptance criteria are defined. Supplier data should not be compared unless the methods and conditioning are equivalent.
1. Sample Identification and Conditioning
Record material, scrim, fabric weight, surface treatment, production batch and sample location. Define temperature and humidity conditioning before testing and note whether the sample is new, used or cleaned.
2. Visual and Dimensional Inspection
Inspect defects, seams, thread, reinforcement, top and bottom construction, and visible damage. Measure diameter, length, thickness and relevant tolerances against the approved drawing.
3. Physical Properties
Depending on the project, review fabric weight, thickness, air permeability, density and pore-related data using the agreed method and units. These values describe the sample but do not alone predict baghouse performance.
4. Mechanical Properties
Define tensile strength and elongation directions, bursting or seam strength where required, and the number of specimens. Compare results with the purchase specification and application demands.
5. Filtration and Resistance Testing
If efficiency, pressure drop or dust-release behavior is tested, document the test dust, particle distribution, face velocity, dust loading, cleaning cycle and endpoint. Results from different conditions should not be treated as directly equivalent.
6. Special-Condition Tests
Temperature exposure, chemical resistance, antistatic behavior, water-and-oil repellency or membrane integrity tests should reflect the actual process risk. A pass under one laboratory condition is not a universal service-life guarantee.
7. Report and Acceptance
The report should identify the method, equipment, units, sample count, individual results, averages and deviations. Agree on acceptance criteria and retest rules before production or shipment.
